Data centres

MEP engineering and utility infrastructure experience built since 1978, now applied to mission-critical data centres.

One MEP contractor, from the power supply to the chilled water

SECCO Engineering & Construction has worked in MEP engineering and utility infrastructure since April 1978, and today builds electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection and high-voltage systems. We now apply that experience to data centres, as one MEP contractor for the electricity supply, the chilled-water plant, the ELV systems and the backup power.

We build redundancy to the Uptime tier or TIA-942 requirements that the operator sets, test every system with a dedicated commissioning team and control quality under ISO 9001:2015.

Why SECCO is ready for data centres

A data centre needs the full building-services scope, a high-voltage supply, careful testing and long-term maintenance. SECCO already provides all four.

Full MEP scope

Utilities and high voltage

  • Conventional and GIS substations
  • Transmission and distribution stations up to 145 kV
  • Aerial and underground transmission and distribution lines
  • SECCO HV, our specialist subsidiary for high-voltage and infrastructure projects

Commissioning and facility services

  • A dedicated commissioning (Cx) team for start-up, testing and commissioning
  • Staged commissioning up to integrated systems testing
  • Commissioning support through the warranty period
  • Preventive maintenance, operation and maintenance, and repair
  • A 24-hour standby team

Quality assurance and control

  • ISO 9001:2015 applied from paperwork to site work
  • A method statement for every installation
  • A quality assurance plan sent to the client for review
  • QA/QC inspection before work goes to the consultant

Two power paths, each able to carry the load

In a 2N arrangement, two independent paths each carry the full IT load, so one can be lost or shut down for maintenance while the racks stay up. SECCO builds data-hall power from a double source through UPS and PDUs, backed by utility dual feeders and on-site generators, to the redundancy level the operator specifies.

A team with data-centre experience

Our data-centre team's experience includes TRUE IDC in Bangkok, AIS Tellus II at Rangsit and TSS Terra phase 3 at Ramkhamhaeng in Bangkok, as well as Abu Dhabi in the UAE. This is the experience of the people on the team, not SECCO company contracts.

The team is led by a project director with more than 40 years of data-centre experience overseas and a background in electrical systems. The wider team covers project management, telecommunications, automation and control, MEP systems, high-efficiency chiller plants and utilities redundancy.

SECCO's own mission-critical references include the Krungthai Bank Computer Centre.

From design review to handover

Six stages from design review to handover, with four controls applied along the way: requests for information, planning, document control and site management.

  1. Design clarification

We review the design and raise requests for information to settle queries with the designer and owner before work starts.

  2. Planning and approvals

Detailed plans are aligned with the other trades' programmes to meet the main milestones, and materials are approved before purchase.

  3. Long-lead items

Long-lead items are managed from purchase to delivery on site under the same planning, document-control and site-management process.

  4. Coordination

Every system is combined in 2D and 3D, submitted for approval and issued as shop drawings.

  5. Installation and inspection

Each installation follows a method statement, with a daily permit for hot work and a set method for lifting, and is inspected and pressure- or leak-tested where it applies.

  6. Commissioning and handover

Systems are commissioned in stages, from factory tests to integrated systems testing, followed by turnover inspection, acceptance and the defects liability period.
