Safety

A zero-tolerance accident policy, licensed safety officers on site, and set checks before anyone welds, lifts or works at height.

Safety is the first of our values

Safety heads SECCO's five core values, and our mission describes an organisation that cares about safety. On site, that means a short list of fixed rules.

SECCO works to a zero-tolerance accident policy. Licensed safety officers work on site, and the company employs ten of them. We keep a SECCO Safety Handbook and safety forms, and the handbook covers both SECCO Co., Ltd. and SECCO Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd.

We prepare a written method statement for every installation.

Three checks before work starts

Our installation method starts with three pre-installation checks: the people, the tools and the plan.

  1. Check the people

The crew is checked before it goes to the work area.

    • Health check
    • Morning talk before work
    • Site rules, method and safety training
    • Personal protective equipment
  2. Check the tools

Machines and tools are inspected before use.

    • Inspection approval tracked on tools
    • Calibration date recorded where the tool needs one
  3. Confirm the plan

Each day's work is requested and confirmed through a daily work request.

How we prepare a work area

SECCO's site-preparation sheets set out, in Thai, how each work area is made safe. These are their rules in English.

Standing platforms

  • Guardrail no lower than 90 cm and no higher than 110 cm
  • Never stand, sit or step on the guardrail while working
  • On marble, tile, vinyl or laminate floors, cap or wrap the platform legs with rubber

Scaffolding

  • Guardrails, standing decks, cross-bracing and an access ladder
  • Castor wheels with locks
  • A tag that permits use, and a scaffold inspection sheet
  • Inspected jointly by the installer, the foreman and the engineer

Lifting materials

  • A signal person and a supervisor direct and control each lift
  • Sling eyes checked for splits and tears, stitching intact, no frayed threads
  • Soft slings checked against a written checklist

Power tools and electrical equipment

  • Body, cable, plug, switch and guards inspected
  • Tools that pass carry an inspection tag
  • Covers drills, grinders, cut-off saws, circular saws, extension sockets, pumps and fans

Hazardous areas

  • Warning signs put up at hazards
  • Hazardous areas cordoned off with red-and-white barriers

Ladders

  • No ladders made from electrical conduit
  • No damaged ladders
  • On A-frame ladders, face the ladder, have a helper hold it, and never stand or sit on the top step

The rules on site

Hot work, lifting and working at height

Each of these follows a written sequence in our installation method. Hot work needs a daily request approved by the safety team, and work at height ends with an inspection by the safety team.

Hot work

  • Request hot work each day
  • Approval from the safety team
  • Identify the location and set a restricted zone
  • Prepare fire protection material
  • Carry out the hot work
  • Inspect and clear the work area

Lifting and mounting

  • Inspect the equipment to be lifted and check its lifting points
  • Inspect cables and slings
  • Use a crane or tower crane suited to the load
  • Clear the work space and set a restricted zone
  • Carry out a lifting test, then lift and mount
  • Final inspection before the rigging is released

Working at height

  • Set a restricted zone
  • Check equipment and materials
  • Prepare the workers and their supervisor
  • Set up the lifting machine
  • Carry out the work
  • Inspect with the safety team

Trained for the job, drilled for emergencies

Technicians and workers are trained in the correct, standard way to do their work, and QA/QC inspection checks the result. Site rules and working methods are part of their safety training.

Staff practise with fire extinguishers and take part in fire drills, and sites mark their assembly points. SECCO also trains its staff in BIM, AutoCAD, engineering and construction, and the SECCO Training Center trains and tests building electricians for their national skill certificate.

Tell us about the project, the programme and the systems you need. A SECCO engineer will reply.
